A few things worth knowing

What is bacteriostatic water, and why does the amount matter?
Bacteriostatic water is sterile water containing a small amount of benzyl alcohol to inhibit bacterial growth across multiple draws from the same vial. The volume you add directly sets the resulting concentration (mg of peptide per mL of solution), so recording it accurately is essential to a reproducible protocol.
How is the draw volume calculated?
Concentration is vial strength divided by water added (mg ÷ mL). The draw volume is your target dose divided by that concentration. For syringe-unit display, we convert mL to U-100 insulin-syringe units, where 100 units equal 1 mL, a standard reference among researchers reconstituting peptides.
My compound isn't in the dropdown, what do I do?
Choose “Custom / not listed” and enter the vial's labeled mg strength directly. The rest of the calculation works identically.
What if my draw exceeds 100 units (1 mL)?
A standard U-100 insulin syringe holds 1 mL. If your calculated draw is larger, the tool flags it, split the draw across two syringes, or reconstitute with additional water to lower the concentration and bring the draw volume back under 1 mL.
Is this calculator a substitute for my lab's protocol or SOP?
